The Environment is Your Business too

It is wrong not to care about the environment in which your business exists. Many people go "oh its not my business, let the Government handle it". I tell you now  that your environment is your business.
There is only so much that the government can do and even if they do take care of it and you do not maintain it , things will go bad just the way it used to be before.

The raw materials you use for production come from the environment, it is your business. Your office or shop is located in the environment,yes, it is your business. The waste produced by your business is absorbed into the environment, it is your business. The people who buy your products live in an environment YES, YES, and YES , IT IS YOUR BUSINESS!!!.

Now that we have established this fact let us look into corporate social Responsibility in Nigeria. The Big multi nationals pay some attention to CSR but the part that worries me is that the SME's don't see their part in this big picture. Every business should pay attention to CSR and give back to the environment; if you make money from something you might as well protect and maintain it so as to preserve it.

 Research shows that CSR activities resulted in as much as 95% increase in income after tax. Although oil companies claim, in many publications, that they invest in environmental preservation, their effect is yet to be felt by the common man. All we see is books and figures. SME's in Nigeria need to step up and step in or they might loose the very thing that feeds them. The results of Environmental negligence are far reaching and cannot be over stressed. We all need to realize that if the environment dies, we die with it. Lets save  our environment.We can do it, together....
